For years, I have heard from numerous sources different stories about the Yamashita treasure that is buried here in the Philippines and numerous treasure hunters worldwide are so interested to find this treasure but most of the time failed. Since these treasure hunters got the wrong leads and wrong information from different treasure hunt scams by individuals who take advantage of these investors.
But come to think of it... There will not exist stories of this treasure if there are some who have really known of the treasure and the saying: "When there is smoke, there is fire." is really true. Since the end of World War 2 and the start of the Marcos era when this treasure hunting boomed in the 1970's. Even the late President Marcos made a law to legalize this activity during that period that brought interest for many treasure hunters and investors to start looking for this treasure in different parts of the Philippines.
During the World War 2 era, my father, Dr. Ernesto Romasanta was a Hukbalahap gueriila under the Liquidation Squad under an American USAFFE offiicial (forgot the name but it is in his documents). And when war ended, he was a close friend of General Yamashita since he knew the achievements of my dad who have killed high ranking Japanese officers such as Colonel Tanaka who have been killing children and raping women in Manila.
When Gen. Yamashita was arrested after the war and he was detained in a certain floor in the Manila Hotel, in a room that is just beside that of General Douglas Mc Arthur, he visited him and even shined the shoes of Yamashita and he even called my father "son". This was the final days before they executed Gen Yamashita. After the war, my father was introduced to President Marcos and he had been his neuro surgeon since then. He was assigned to the National Orthopedic Hospital when I was born.
In my grade school, he kept telling me stories about the war and he confirmed that there were buried treasures in the Philippines. General Yamashita planned to make the country a central bank of gold bars that were looted from different countries that they have conquered in Asia. There are other details that he told me so whenever I hear stories from other people who were discussing about the treasures of Yamashita and if does really exist, I just thought that the treasure was really being dreamt by many Filipinos and even by foreigners.
I did read some posted articles that provided some bits and pieces of their treasure hunting expeditions but was unsuccessful. But in my mind, if ever an individual or a group have ever dug up the treasure, will they still have the courage to tell them in the open? Obviously, they will tend to disappear in the face of the earth and even family members will never be seen. Quite strange huh? :-)
Anyway, for quite some time, I just wanted to update this blog and got the interest to share some thoughts about this. At this point, the big question is... How many sites are still untouched?
I hope that I can share more on this blog sometime soon. Time to work again and hopefully make my own treasure for my children.
